About Kent's Foundation for Child Life

Kent's Foundation for Child Life was founded by Elissa and Rich Morrison after their son Kent became a patient at Children's National Medical Center, and benefited from the Child Life program, a specialized program that helps children and their families cope with the stresses associated with illness, injury and hospitalization.

Child Life provided Kent explanations about medical tests in kid terms, used therapeutic play to prepare him for medical procedures and worked with his family to maintain a sense of normalcy during this chaotic period. Today, Kent is a happy, healthy boy thanks not only to the wonderful medical care, but to the unique, child-focused care by Child Life.

The foundation's goal is to ensure that other children have this experience by raising funds to endow additional Child Life counselors at Children's National Medical Center. Established in 2004, Kent's Foundation for Child Life is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
